October 2017 Newsletter

Welcome to October

For us, the month started on a high, as we were in full flight with the Great Bath Feast (23rd Sept - 8th Oct) and celebrating the wonderful work of local artist, Natasha Clutterbuck. After a private viewing and 15 day exhibition some of her work will remain on display in the shop and cafe, all of which are for sale. We hope you like it. To view more of her work click here . Meanwhile, down on the farm we have planted 120 acres of barley and 100 acres of wheat with just another 150 acres to plant after the maize harvest.

Step outside

Autumn, really has to be the best season to get outdoors for lovely long walks. Not only is it uplifting to see the countryside transform from vibrant greens to yellows, oranges, reds and browns, but just being outside and walking is really good for you. Here's five reasons why: 1.Walking contributes to stabilizing blood sugar levels and helps avoid swings in mood and energy. 2. Being a weight-bearing exercise, it will help reduce the risk of diseases such as osteoporosis. 3. Setting up a regular walking regime can help build endurance in the large muscle groups that stabilize and support the spine, helping to reduce back pain. 4. Walking strengthens the heart, by making it pump blood more efficiently through the body and raising the level of HDL - the good cholesterol. 5. It can also lift your mood as it releases endorphins - your brain's own mood-elevating compounds. So what are you waiting for?

Pumpkins galore!

Green-fingered gardener, Colin, has worked wonders this year on our kitchen garden and we're delighted with what he has achieved. As well as producing a wonderful bounty throughout the summer, he has also managed to grow a mini mountain of pumpkins! Pumpkins are so versatile, great for pies, soups, risottos, roasting and of course for carving great shapes for halloween! Now on sale in the shop.
